Balms & ointments

A balm or ointment is a semi-solid preparation intended to be applied most often on the skin (dermal and transcutaneous route). There are also ointments for application to mucous membranes, integuments, eyes (ophthalmic route), nose (nasal route), ears (ear canal) and anus (rectal route). Their purpose is the local or transdermal release of active ingredients, or an emollient or protective action
